Health minister Mangal Pandey visits Sana

PATNA: State health minister Mangal Pandey on Saturday visited three-year-old Sana who was admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Friday morning.
The minister met Sana’s parents Nachiketa and Sudha Kumari and asked them if they were satisfied with the treatment being provided to her at the hospital. “She is being looked after well,” Sudha told the minister.
According to PMCH’s paediatrics department head Dr Anil Kumar Jaiswal, Sana is recovering.
“The swelling is visibly less and she is more active now than she was on Friday. We will keep her in the hospital for another week and discharge her once she is completely fine,” Dr Jaiswal said.
Munger’s district programme manager Mohammad Nasim, who had accompanied Sana to the PMCH, said he had been closely monitoring the progress of the child.
Pandey also inspected the intensive care unit (ICU) and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the hospital. He found that only five ventilators were functional in the NICU. “He instructed the hospital administration to acquire five more ventilators,” PMCH superintendent Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad told this reporter.
Sana had fallen into a borewell at her maternal grandfather Umesh Nandan Prasad’s house in Murgaichak-Munger around 4pm on Tuesday evening. She was stuck inside a 160ft deep borewell and was rescued by NDRF, SDRF and Army personnel after a 28-hour rescue operation. The girl was referred to the PMCH from the Munger sadar hospital where she had been receiving treatment.
